Mare’s kitchen spaceis separated from the diningroom by a continuous wallof tiles manufactured by EquipeCerámicas. Besides addingbrightness to the interior, the consistent use of tilesemphasises the fluidity of thesurfaces. On the ground, microcement and resin flooring.
with the two square openings for the service counters beingthe only exception. “The design concept is fast, simple witha nod to installation art, humbly referencing the movementof Richard Serra’s outdoor installations”, adds Marco Donati. The space’s limited dimensions are defined by a languagecomprising monochromatic and consistent material elements. Thesquare tables, all identical, feature a back-painted glass tabletopwith silver steel edging, and a cylindrical, fibreglass pedestal leftunpainted.
The same material is featured in the banquettesmade-to-measure, by hand, without moulds, and upholstered inglossy vinyl. The seating alternates with vintage armchairs thatare also defined by chromed metal frames and vinyl upholstery.“In a way, the restaurant combines an American diner withthe bars of the Riviera, but stylised into a contemporary story”,comments Barbara Ghidoni.
Between the large windows lookingoutside, the pre-existing pillars stand out: they’re clad in mirroredsheets and embellished with glass and polished steel displaycabinets, featuring backdrops made of glass and raw resin.Recurring materials and colours create a consistent languagethat exudes a sense of place with the patina of sophisticatednostalgia, without forsaking a decidedly current identity.“We wished for something ethereal, but also tactile anddreamlike at once. And we had the desire to create somethingdifferent, redefined, elegant”.
